Liverpool have reportedly agreed a world-record bid from Arsenal for one of the club’s attackers.
The Reds’ busy summer business has featured several incoming players and a few outgoing ones.
One of the club’s new signings has already broken the record for being the most expensive British signing.
Several reports have indicated that the deal that brought Florian Wirtz to Liverpool this summer is set to exceed any transfer fee paid by a Premier League side should all add-ons be met.
Liverpool reportedly paid an initial £100m for the German, with an extra £16-20m expected in performance-related add-ons.
On the flip side, Liverpool have recouped close to €64m from player sales.
Jarell Quansah’s move to Bayer Leverkusen fetched the club a guaranteed €35m, with the young English defender becoming Leverkusen’s most-expensive transfer in history.
Meanwhile, Trent Alexander-Arnold’s €10m move to Real Madrid makes him the most ‘expensive’ free transfer in football history, while Liverpool also recouped a sizeable fee from the sale of goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher.
The club are set to recoup another massive sum in the women’s team, after accepting a £1m bid from Arsenal for highly-rated attacker Olivia Smith.
The Canadian forward has been a big hit at Liverpool since joining the club last season from Sporting Lisbon for a club-record fee believed to be just over £200,000.
She scored seven times in 20 Women’s Super League appearances in her debut season in England, netting just under a third of the team’s league goals across the campaign.
Despite still having several years on her Liverpool contract, Arsenal are said to be keen on signing her.
According to The Guardian, the Gunners are willing to pay over £1m for her services, meaning that the 20-year-old Canadian forward will become the world’s first women’s player to break the £1m transfer barrier.
According to sources, the fee agreed between Arsenal and Liverpool exceeds the US$1.1 million paid by Chelsea to sign the United States centre-back Naomi Girma in January, which set a new women’s world record at the time.
Smith can play as a winger as well as a central striker.
The Telegraph report added that “Liverpool initially rejected several offers from numerous clubs for Smith, which were deemed unacceptable, but with the agreement with the north London club, the Merseyside outfit are set to receive five times what they paid for Smith 12 months ago.”
